Psychotherapeutic Counselling & Group Work

“Authenticity is the daily practice of letting go of who we think we’re supposed to be and embracing who we are.”

Individual Therapy

It’s not uncommon to feel like we should be able to cope with whatever life throws at us. When things get too much, it can take a lot of courage to ask for help. If you feel overwhelmed, or difficult feelings are impacting on the quality of your life, therapy can provide the support you need. Maybe you feel like you’ve been treading water for a while and realise that now is the right time to do something differently? Maybe you are struggling to keep your head above water and realise now is the time to reach for that buoyancy aid? Either way, asking for help is an act of self-care and one that can make all the difference.

I work with adults and young people to create a safe space where together we can explore the issues that made you reach out for help. My practice is integrative, so I draw on a range of counselling theories. I work one to one with adults and I have undertaken further training to enable me to work safely with clients via video, phone or email. I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP).

I can help with issues relating to anxiety, depression, trauma, low self-worth, self-sabotaging behaviours and life and career transitions (redundancy, loss, parenting).

Speaking about our difficulties can be a source of anxiety but it can also be a huge relief. There is hope, things can change and counselling does help. Please reach out to me if you would like an informal chat to explore whether I might be the right counsellor for you.

Group Work

Group Work

Therapeutic group work offers an opportunity to explore particular topics in the company of those who struggle with similar issues, with the support of a trained therapist facilitating the meetings.

Joining a therapeutic group can be a great way to increase your self-awareness and gain a new understanding about the issue you are ‘stuck’ with.   In addition, you will be able to gain insight from others people’s experiences and have the satisfaction of supporting your peers’ learning and growth.  You will learn new techniques and gain different perspectives that will help you discover alternative ways to move forward.

It’s important to distinguish between different types of group therapy – this group work is a combination of:

  • Psycho-education – we work with resources, often using reading or reflective activities to support your learning between sessions.
  • Support – we will agree a contract at the start which defines how we want to work together in order for the space to feel safe enough to enable members to be open and to share their thoughts and feelings.
  • Therapeutic community – all members agree to take responsibility for their own growth and this is facilitated by the structure and guidance provided by the facilitator and the group setting.

The groups typically run for 8 weeks either online or face to face in Tunbridge Wells, with between 5 to 8 members.  Sessions last 90 minutes and cost £35 per session.
